The commode appeared to have been cleaned, so it seemed the housekeeping crew forgot the simple task of pushing the toilet seat down and cleaning it, too!
The bed linen did smell freshly laundered. However, the bed spread was stained and after cleaning the filthy toilet seat, I was doubtful as to whether it had been washed after last guest.
Having cleaned the toilet seat, seeing several water bugs on the bathroom floor, the heavy and overwhelming "old-house" smell was the third strike. I left the place and went to Falls Motel. If no other hotel had a vacancy, I would have slept in my car.
Well, I know now what to look for.
The owner is an elderly lady who is professional and courteous. I believe it is family members who clean and do maintenance for her. She did insist I look at the room first before deciding so I'll take part of the blame for inspecting the room too quickly.
Although the room appeared to have been cleaned, the toilet seat was filthy. It appeared the last user made it to the toilet minutes too late.
They are doing some work after they will have five rooms total.
